Beauty Favorites April 2015
April Beauty Favorites!
Spring has sprung! Well, in New York City played hard to get with some snowflakes last week, but it can’t stay away for long! I’m willing the warm weather in by changing up my look. Winter was all about going all out: big lashes, bold lips, heavy contouring. With the freshness of spring though, I’ve been simplifying my routine and going for a natural, dewy, glowy look. I’m obsessed with the stained lip because it looks like you partied hard the night before and woke up like this!”.
I only recently bought into the idea of primers and now I can’t imagine life without it. I’ve been through a fair share this year and even named a couple as favorites, but my current go-to is the Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer.
Smashbox, along with Make Up Forever have an arsenal in their primer repertoire, but this one really does the impossible. It minimizes pores!! I even wear this alone over some moisturizer when I’m having a good skin-day and it blurs away those pesky pores for a subtle “smoothing-filter”. Add bit of concealer and powder, and voila, you and your flawless skin can go tackle the world.
As for concealer, this one hasn’t been over-hyped yet, but is versatile, travel-friendly, and works! It’s the NUDESTIX Concealer Pencil
I own two shades, the Medium 5 for hyper-pigmentation or a visitor from “zitsville”, and the Light 3 for under the eyes and anywhere else I want to brighten up a bit: the brow bone, down the bridge of my nose, the cupids bow, etc. The consistency is ridiculously creamy but NOT oily and it blends like second skin.
Powders are my nemesis because I have the oiliest skin in the world. No, I’m serious. I can replace olive oil, but I hate cake-face. Enter into my life, Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pressed Powder
This has shot up to my absolute holy grail product EVER. I will always try new powders because let’s face it, I am a makeup-junkie, but I will never love anyone more. This product is perfection. The lightest layer literally photoshops your face; you know that filter on Instagram that magically makes your skin look perfect? It controls my oils yet it never looks or feels like I have anything on.
Freshly flushed cheeks are a must for Spring, and what better color than the prettiest pink! DownBoy by theBalm will be your best wing-woman! It is the most universally flattering pink, and when you pounce it on with this Real Techniques Buffing Brush, you’ll get the ultimate sexy flush. My DownBoy as you can see has been well loved and well traveled and I haven’t even had it for that long!
If you are a chocoholic, or if you just want a sinfully gorgeous glow, you’ll want to try the Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Milk Chocolate.
This is like my secret weapon. I sweep it around the perimeter of my face and in the hollows of my cheeks, and it slims my face, gives me the perfect amount of color, and instantly lifts up my cheekbones. And the sweetest part? When your boyfriend/lover/husband leans in to give you a kiss, you’ll smell like chocolate. Yum!
Speaking of kisses, let’s talk about the pout. If you twist my arm and tell me I can only wear one lip color for the rest of my life, I’ll probably say classic red. It’s timeless, sexy, and strong. However, sometimes you don’t want to go through the whole red-lip-routine because you gals know, “doing red- lips” is a whole THING… You HAVE to line, you have to conceal, you have to layer, you have to check every five minutes to make sure that you don’t have lipstick on your teeth or your hair didn’t graze over your lips then across your face, leaving tiny red lines on your cheeks. Not to mention, everyone will know what (or who) those lips have touched! You know what I’m talking about. When you want a low-maintenace sexy smoocher, you want to stain baby stain. I think there is nothing quite as sexy as a perfectly stained lip because it’s looks natural like you’ve been drinking wine or sucking on a lollipop, and it doesn’t scare away the boys! For spring, go pink. I’m loving this Milani Power Lip in Pink Lemonade. It’s a hot pink, for the perfect pucker.
Brows, brows, brows. You’ve heard it a million times, but the brows really do frame your face. And my natural frame ain’t gonna do justice to my face. My fellow Asian girlfriends out there, you feel my pain. Just like our eyelashes, most of us have, how shall I say… no brow game. The good news is Asian have developed some amazing eyebrow pencils. This one by Skinfood is a home run. The color matches my dark brown/dark grey eyebrow hairs and the triangular-plateau edge allows me to shade and chisel. The spooly is nice and firm too!
Where there is an end, there must be a beginning. My rose water is the beginning, the middle, AND the end! I’ve been talking about the Heritage brand rose water since my first video on YouTube and I am just as in love with it as ever. It is so versatile and it does your skin good!! I use it to prep my skin before applying makeup, as a finishing spray, and throughout the day to keep my skin hydrated and feeling fresh! It smells like roses but isn’t overpowering or irritating. I also use my skin hydrated and feeling fresh! It smells like roses but isn’t overpowering or irritating. I also use it to make my DIY toner which I have been using twice a day everyday for almost three years! I haven’t had clearer skin.
In this video, I talk more about this amazing elixir!
